I will define this type of art according to how i understand it. A work that includes either through scale, material, site reference or positioning an aspect of the disturbance, experience, quality, history or uniqueness of a particular site. It may be represented through any medium and seeks to understand our interactions with the land. It may be political, poetic whimsical, aesthertic, empirical or practical in its forms. For my part I have included landscape elements such as porous paving from recycled brick, mosaics, stack stone works and green/living roofs. I work mostly in urban or suburban landscapes and see the fragmentation that occurs through our growth patterns. This fragmentation of landscapes, habitat niches and ecosytems has profound affects on our environment. Adding more function back into the landscape is an important component of any residence business or other development. Living walls and green roofs are tow examples of this idea, the green roof in particular since it cloaks the entire footprint of the building has many benefits. An increase in insulation or R value, it is aesthetically pleasing, slows storm water runoff, captures some storm water, adds habitat and ecosystem services and also insulates against noise.
