Samuelson Ecoscape-mosaic by Gabriela Pomplova
Landscape Design and Installation. Paving, artistic mosaics, arbors and creating a sense of place. With a desire to set each project apart from the next I attempt to bring my full creative powers into each project. The plants I have worked with have taught me as much as any book or employer because by listening and observing on can achieve the greatest lessons. Working with artists and craftsmen has also taught me to grow beyond the confines of my perception to explore the next challenge. Please contact me if you are interested in creating a sense of place at your home or business.
Hardscaping and stonework
Stone adds character to any place and has a lasting effect. Rock walls can be dry stacked and structural, or masonry block may be added for a different look with cut or broken stone veneer. I prefer a natural look and pattern. I believe stone is well used in restoration projects, to control erosion, re create woodland gardens or in boulder formations to mimic rock outcroppings.
Brick is also a great material to create walking surfaces, edging and with the advent of recycled brick the options are expanded as to the look and character you can achieve.
Please contact me to set up a site visit and talk about your hardscaping possibilities.
Nowadays native landscaping makes more and more sense. Waterwise plantings can reduce your need to water excessively over time saving you money. The other benefits of including natves in your landscaping are the habitat they create. We lose habitat every day in our forests and around the world a simple way to create balance in our world is to make our own gardens a little more natural by using native plants in place of exotic varieties whenever possible. Kudzu, privet, nandina all have ornamental qualities but escape our gardens and run amok in our woods. These were all introduced to solve some problem or add interest and yet our native species are as beautiful and more so in some cases. Native azaleas create a clump or small thicket which songbirds can roost in and in the spring they are some of the earliest to bloom in pinks and whites, yellow and deep orange. Songbirds love fruit and Serviceberry is another native shrub that can be worked into a mixed border or as a hedge that will flower and provide food for migrating birds. So whether you want a meadow or simply to add a few native plants to your garden get in touch with me so I can help you with your native plants needs.
I have worked on adding function to many garden spaces over the years and enjoy working with edibles. We have a great climate in Alabama with long growing seasons. Whether it is fresh figs you desire or a small patch of salad greens, i can develop a plant ot fit your scale and budget. Please check out the eco scape projects for ideas and inspiration. Apples, plums, peaches, muscadines, serviceberries and persimmon are just a few of the edibles you can enjoy in your own yard! I buy local and promote local growers whenever I can.
Seasonal bulbs are a great way to add color and interest to your garden. Spring bulbs are among the first things to bloom and can be worked into a border or small space in your garden. I also have done work naturalizing bulbs to create a more dramatic effect. please contact me to talk about how to get your garden growing!
